Study Finds Low Risk of Dietary Supplement and Prescription Drug Interactions

There is always great discussion regarding the combined/concurrent use of dietary supplements and prescription medications. We always do our best to let people know about known potential interactions via the product label warnings. Additionally, we encourage users to speak with their physicians or pharmacists about potential risks of interactions. The American Botanical Council recently reported on a study published in the American Journal of Medicine, which found very little risk of harm from dietary supplement and prescription drug interactions. According the that study’s findings, sixty-eight percent of adverse interactions between supplements and prescription drugs arise from only 5 herbal extracts. See link below for the full report:
