I came across an article this morning about a growing number of consumers skipping on vet care while the economy is in a slowdown. Our pets are part of our family and to ensure that they live a long healthy life it is important to make sure they are well cared for. With the economy slowing down, many consumers may be reconsidering certain luxuries that they afforded themselves when financial times were better. Unfortunately, many consider these "luxuries" as part of their pet care. Obviously, we can cut back on certain things for our pets like fancy apparel and accessories. We can even cut back on expensive toys - let's be honest a toilet paper tube is probably more fun for them anyway than the expensive squeaky toys. But we shouldn't cut back on their health care.
Vet care is very important. It not only makes sure that your pets are update to date on their vaccinations but also ensures that they are being checked for infections, parasites and diseases. There are ways to cut corners, but this isn't want of them. Set limits on your morning Starbucks, eat a bowl of cereal instead of a fast-food breakfast and rent a movie instead of going to the movies.
To save money on your pet's food, buy it in larger quantities instead of the smaller bags - it hurts a little more at first, but it lasts longer and ends up being more economical.
You can also save money by doing some of your own grooming. Instead of a salon day for your dog, give them a bath yourself (don't cut their hair if you don't know what you're doing, you could end up hurting them.) PetHealth™ Hypoallergenic Shampoo (5612) gently cleanses and moisturizes their skin and coat and leaves a soft lavender fragrance. Depending on your grooming salon, this could save you a ton of money.
Make sure you do what you can to keep your pets healthier throughout the year. For a solid micronutrient foundation, give them PetHealth Multivitamin Formula (5606 for dogs and 5608 for cats). For joint health and a strong antioxidant defense, give them PetHealth OPC Formula (5602). For optimal cardiovascular health, give your dog PetHealth Cardiovascular Formula (5610). Make sure they get plenty of exercise to keep them at a healthy weight.
Don't skip on your pet's health; there are many other ways you can save money. Your vet may even have some alternatives, but this is a discussion you should have with them. Our pets are our family – they show us unconditional loyalty and love. Help them live long, healthy, happy lives.
