Millionaires in the Making

I sat down with some of Market America's up-and-coming success stories to demonstrate that you don't have to be a seasoned veteran in the business world before you begin your path toward financial freedom. In fact, these young entrepreneurs took advantage of their youthful enthusiasm and have created an ongoing income that -- based on their current rate of progression -- will help them reach the million-dollar mark before they reach the age of 30!

Look for several of these exclusive interviews posted on ma Blog in the coming weeks, and make sure to read about the ones featured in the upcoming August/September edition of Powerline.

Name: Ron Hill
Age: 26
Location: York, PA
Pin Level: Master Coordinator
How long you’ve been with ma: Almost 4 years

PL: You are being featured because most individuals at this stage in their lives are not thinking about going into business for themselves. Why did you decide to become involved with ma?

RH: There are quite a few reasons, but the most important reason why I started a business with ma was because of a lesson I learned while growing up. I watched my father day in and day out work for corporate America and never get ahead. He missed a lot of my childhood activities and family events because of his job. When your income provides you with no leverage, no ongoing cash flow, and no time freedom, you put yourself and your family at risk if something were to happen to you. And that is just it. My father became terminally ill and as a result, after his passing my family was left in financial ruin. I vowed to never let that happen to my family and I also learned not to rely on someone else to control your financial future. It is happening every day and I just don’t understand how our culture hasn’t learned from what is happening in today’s economy.

PL: What were some of the challenges you have overcome and how did you overcome them?

RH: Well, you definitely have to be willing to overcome rejection and failure. You have to understand that these two components are part of success. Ask any successful person who has earned their success if everything they did along the way went perfectly. The answer is always “of course not.” You see, what happens is that most people are not willing to persevere. That explains why a small percentage of people are actually living their dreams. Successful people are able learn from their mistakes and failures and pick themselves back up and press on. The people who don’t succeed generally call it quits when times get tough or when they fail. It’s the fear of failure that holds most people back. Another question I ask is, “what would you be willing to do if you knew you could not fail?”

PL: How does it feel to know that you are on your way to earning $1 million through Market America?

RH: It’s incredible. To see my dreams beginning to come true every day nearly brings me to tears. There is no way to describe the peace of mind you begin to obtain knowing that if anything ever happens to you or your family, financially you will be alright. I know my dad is smiling down at me and cheering on the fact that I changed; I have chosen a different path then most and what happened to me before will never happen again. Also, knowing that the only way to make a million with ma is to directly change the lives of others along the way. And helping others realize their dreams is worth more than a million dollars to me. It is my sole mission to change the lives of families and prevent them from going through what I experienced growing up.

PL: What has the company allowed you to do that you probably wouldn’t have otherwise had the opportunity for?

RH: With ma, you grow more than just your income – you obtain personal growth along the way. It forces you to overcome the inevitable challenges associated with life and keep going, all while being a role model for others along the way. Again, there is nothing else in the world that allows you to directly help others obtain their goals and dreams like our Management Performance Compensation Plan does. Your success is directly proportionate to the success of your business partners. It’s just that simple.

Lenny Dykstra Names Market America as a Company to Watch

I grew up watching Lenny Dykstra dive after line drives in center field and turning singles into doubles by sliding head first into second base. He was known as "nails" for his all out approach to playing the game.

Today, Dykstra is long removed from his baseball career and is an extremely successful business mogul, stock market analyst, and columnist. It's rare for Dykstra to evaluate private companies, but that's just what he did on page two of this article on the popular financial website thestreet.com. The excerpt about Market America is below.

"In this column, I typically talk only about stocks that I like, but I am going to go a bit off-topic and talk about a private company that I really like. You should check out Market America. This Web site is big-league, and if it ever goes public, I will definitely give it a long hard look.

The company calls itself a "product brokerage and Internet marketing company." It says it specializes in one-to-one marketing. It's a one-stop-shopping destination for nearly anything you might want to buy. It has more than 3 million customers and 160,000 distributors all around the world.

The numbers? This company has generated more than $2.4 billion in retail sales and has more than 500 employees around the world. It has operations in the U.S., Canada, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Australia. This is a major league company on the way up."

Pet care is more than just a supplement

Well, Convention is over – it went by way too fast. Here at corporate there is no rest for the weary, and we are already working on ma World Conference 2009! Time flies and it will be here before we know it.

If you made it to my breakout training at Convention, you will know that I spent quite a bit of time talking about pet food labels and overall nutrition for your pets. I want to emphasize the importance of maintaining your pet's health. Small, simple steps can save you a ton of money and give you peace of mind knowing that your pets are well cared for. Pet care is more than giving your pet a supplement and calling it a day. There are three simple steps you can take to keep your pet healthy: a good diet, supplementation and exercise.

If you are keeping up with my blogs, I probably sound like a broken record, but these three steps are very important. Obesity is rapidly becoming an epidemic for pets – and it is not because your pets are sneaking into the cookie jar while you are at work. A supplement is not going to magically make everything better; you are actually going to have to work a little. If Fido is putting on a little in the middle, chances are his owner is too.

So let's talk diet. All animals have different nutritional needs. Some of the factors that affect the absorption of nutrients from food include their age, activity level, environment, breed and genetics. It is really important to keep your pet's diet in check. If you are already feeding your furry friend a quality pet food, bravo! If you are not, consider making a switch to a healthier, more comprehensive pet food option. I love the Wellness® brand of pet food. There are better options for your pet; you just have to look for them. Check out petfooddirect.com from the Portal – they offer fantastic savings on Wellness and other great brands, plus everything you order earns 8 percent IBV.

Although high-quality pet food is a good start, often times they lack the full spectrum of nutrients essential for optimal health. The PetHealth Multivitamin Formulas provide a strong micronutrient foundation for your pets. Some of the benefits of a multivitamin include supporting healthy muscle functions, promoting normal energy levels, promoting digestive health, promoting normal growth and repair of body tissues, and supporting a healthy immune system.

Don't forget exercise. Stretching out in front of the TV does not count. Dust off the leash and take your dog for a walk. It gives them the exercise they need, and it's great for you too. For your cat's, get a laser pen – it will help them get some exercise and give you a laugh or two.

It is important to keep your vet in the loop on the steps you are taking to maintain your pet's health. Make sure you take your pet to the vet on a regular basis.

How long you’ve been with ma: 3 years

PL: You are being featured because most individuals at this stage in their lives are not thinking about going into business for themselves. Why did you decide to become involved with ma?

MC: The true reason why I decided to become involved with ma was because I could not find any other viable solution to make money and yet have all the time in the world to spend with loved ones and to do the things I enjoy in life. There are four types of people. There are the ones in this world who have all the time imaginable, but no money. There are plenty of people that have all the money they could ever want but no time to enjoy it or do anything with it. Unfortunately, there are also the people with no time and no money. Those three categories did not excite me one bit so I made a decision to get into the fourth -- to build an ongoing income at a young age, working part time, and working with people that I love being around. The decision was a no-brainer.

PL: Did you have any concerns or apprehensions when you were considering this opportunity? If so, please explain.

MC: The only concern I really had was what a lot of people have, and that’s “Does this really work? Are these people really making money?" After I cut my first check, all walls were knocked down.

PL: How does it feel to know that you are on your way to earning $1 million through Market America?

MC: Knowing that I’m on my way to earning $1 million and more is an indescribable feeling. The real important thing about it all is that to do that, I get to help hundreds and thousands of others do the same. Also, and don’t get me wrong the money is unbelievable, but the time you have when you don’t have to worry about money anymore is what I enjoy and look forward to the most. To ask yourself what you want to do today, and then be able to actually go do it, is pretty crazy. The future looks good, real good.

PL: What has the company allowed you to do that you probably wouldn’t have otherwise had the opportunity for?

MC: The company has allowed me to do so many things. For starters, I now volunteer about 15 hours a week with disabled veterans. I get to travel more than I ever have, especially to all the major ma events. I get to work for myself instead of working every day of my life for someone else. I get to help others live a healthier and happier life. To be perfectly honest, ma has allowed me to finally be me. I get to do the things I have always wanted to that I never had a chance to do before.

Thoughts on Convention

This year's International Convention was very exciting. We launched the new Autoworks™ line of car care products and unveiled the new eco-friendly seal that you will begin to find on product cards, the ma catalog, labels, e-mails and more. This is really exciting for me. Tanya calls me granola, because I strive to be as green as possible. There are small steps that we can all take to reduce our carbon footprint – what's great is Market America has been at the forefront of the green movement from the very beginning. You should all take pride knowing that here at corporate we do care about the environment; we always have and always will.

This was my second Convention – and it gets better every year. I really enjoyed talking to many of you. You are all doing a fantastic job out in the field. Being the Home & Garden Product Manager, I love to hear your feedback on all of our products. As you have probably gathered from my numerous blog posts, I'm becoming a sort of blog junkie. This has become a fantastic forum for us to share ideas, testimonials or just random thoughts. Keep 'em coming! I love to hear what you have to say.

My Convention 2008 Experience

After reading all the posts from my fellow Market America colleagues, I decided to share my experiences at this year's Convention. I have been with Market America almost a year now and got a taste of what it's like when many of the distributors come together to share the excitement at Leadership School in Miami back in February. I was a newbie then and didn't really know what to expect. I remember having so much fun meeting so many people and hearing the great feedback. I also had the pleasure of working VIP seating and meeting the majority of the members of the Dream Team, Advisory Council and Million Dollar Club. After coming home from Leadership, I learned a lot about Market America and how we are built in product, powered by people. So as soon as we got back, it was time to get ready for Convention. The next six months were totally devoted to preparation for Convention, and we hit the ground running. As August 7th approached, I was ready. The last six months of hard work and devotion to launching new Health and Nutrition products was about to pay off. We were scheduled to be at the coliseum bright and early Thursday morning to get ready for the big show. I was still amazed at the crowds lined up outside and the rush to get in to get the best seat. I worked VIP seating again this year and after working at Leadership school, I was a pro. Many familiar faces from the Advisory Council and Million Dollar Club entered to their special seating and before I knew it, it was time for the show to start. I love seeing Loren's excitement and how she creates an amazing amount of enthusiasm in the crowd. As the show went on, my friend and coworker Kristie Leigh was due to present on the main stage with Dennis Franks and Lydia Martinez. It was her first time presenting on the main stage and she did so wonderful! She's a natural! It's also very exciting to see Marty Weissman and Tanya Smith to present together on new products. As the week went on, it got even more exciting. From Loren and Marc's announcement about Google to Marty and Tanya’s presentation on the new Might-A-Mins Spectrum products. After setting up for the tradeshow on Saturday, I rushed back to watch JR's final presentation. All I have to say is WOW...I love that man's energy and enthusiasm. We all then had the opportunity to go up on the main stage for employee recognition. It felt great to be on the main stage representing Market America in front of 25,000 Distributors. When it was time for the Tradeshow, I was ready. I was scheduled to present on Women’s Health in between talking to many, many Distributors about Family Health. I must have talked to more than 500 or so people. I didn’t lose my voice, but I must say that I was exhausted when it was all over. It was also my first time presenting and I heard a lot of great feedback from the audience. Being the product manager, I love hearing testimonials and feedback on the H&N products. It gives a great sense of pride that my products are doing well in the field and the amount of great stuff that people have to say about them. The Conventions and MA World Conferences will only get better. And I have so much to look forward to!

Convention 2008 with Transitions

The 2008 International Convention was very exciting for Transitions and all of our supporters. We started out on Wednesday night, meeting with the Certified Transitions Lifestyle Coaches and recapping the last year. We introduced the “Lean Team” our group of elite coaches, one from every region that will represent Transitions in performance and spirit. On Thursday Transitions had the first segment after Loren opened the show and it was awesome. We launched our new bar flavors (Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and Almond Yogurt) and our new line of FRESH, low glycemic, home-delivery meals from PUREFOODS. We had 9 weight loss testimonials and 3 business testimonials. Tanya and Marty launched our new Thermochrome with Advantra Z and South African Hoodia gordonii supplement on Thursday afternoon and we got a phenomenol response. Thursday night we had our breakout with Lydia Martinez, Vicki Whited, and myself. We started out discussing the new Thermochrome supplement and the new bars and Vicki and Lydia discussed sales and coaching techniques. We had a great turn-out and a great response at the Transitions booth all week and at all the breakouts. We finished up the week at the Transitions/PUREFOODS booth at the Tradeshow. Convention 2008 was very busy, but very exciting. The whole weekend just flew by. I can’t wait to see everyone again next year.

Americans need Transitions

A new government funded study shows that Transitions will have plenty of customers over the next 40 years. The study projects that if the trends of the past three decades continue, that every US adult will be overweight 40 years from now. This may seem impossible but even if the number of overweight Americans increases just a little it will be a large cost to the US. Two-thirds of the US population are already overweight and with the trends continuing as they have over the past 30 years we are definitely going in that direction. If the trends continue researchers estimate that 86% of American adults will be overweight by 2030 with 51% being obese and by 2048 all US adults could be at least mildly overweight. Based on these trends healthcare costs will double each decade as waistlines increase reaching $957 billion by 2030. The good news for the US is that there are at least 1200 Certified Transitions Lifestyle Coaches that can turn these alarming trends around.

Giving Back

"There's a difference between knowing the path, and walking the path."
- Morpheus

Anybody who has been with Market America for longer than one day has doubtless heard multiple references to our organization's commitment to helping others. As a matter of fact, our entire model is built on this philosophy - helping others with our amazing products, or by introducing them to our powerful business opportunity.

However, it's not just a sound byte - it's a credo by which to live one's life. Case in point: Elizabeth Weber. There's a reason why our International Field President is introduced to the tune of "Still the One" - because she not only talks the talk, she walks the walk. Click on this link to read a wonderfully inspiring piece on Elizabeth Weber's philanthropic organization, and then feel free to learn more by visiting their website: The Weber Foundation of Helping Hands.

Metal Spoons and Mixing Isotonix

We heard a lot of great feedback at this year’s tradeshow – especially at the Isotonix booth. We were very happy to hear everyone’s testimonials and feedback on possible new products.

I would like to clear up some confusion from the feedback that we were receiving from the field regarding Isotonix products. Some people were concerned and asking questions about mixing their Isotonix mixture with a metal spoon. The metal does not react with the ingredients of the Isotonix product or compromise the integrity of the Isotonix mixture.

Through the Eyes of a Rookie

After one taste of International Convention, I’m hooked.

By Chatterbox Writer, Jennifer Jolly

The week of August 4-10 is a magical time of year for anyone who is a part of the Market America family. As a “newbie,” I didn’t really understand what Convention truly meant until I was given the chance to witness it firsthand.

I must admit, however, I did hear the rumors.

During its preceding weeks, International Convention is all that’s on anyone’s mind around here (the corporate headquarters) and every single department is on work overload trying to gear up for the big event. My coworkers kept telling me how I was going to learn sooo much, and truly gain a full understanding of Market America. And all everyone kept saying was, “Just wait until you see JR up on stage.”

This entire buzz surrounding Convention definitely piqued my interest, so I decided to do some of my own investigating beforehand. I asked as many questions as possible about Convention—and of course—I “Googled” it and found Market America’s YouTube account. After watching some of the videos and listening to my coworkers’ accounts of International Convention, I felt like I had a pretty good idea of what to expect.

…Boy was I wrong…

Upon arriving at the Greensboro Coliseum, parking, and walking to the employee entrance, I already sensed that I was in for something WAY bigger than I had anticipated. I had arrived over an hour before Convention was even supposed to begin and dozens of people were already lined up at the doors. As I found my way to my assigned location and became situated, I took a moment to explore the backstage area—a functioning ecosystem of glowing screens, wires, and high-tech equipment. It’s the giant, breathing control center behind the entire operation.

As I made my way back to my seat, the audience began to roll in to a medley of upbeat rock/classic rock tunes blaring from the gigantic concert-grade speakers.

Anytime a group this large (30,000-35,000) congregates in one place there will undoubtedly be a ton of energy present, but there are truly no words to describe the energy that’s created when 30,000-35,000 Market America Distributors congregate for International Convention.

On a side-note: Distributors, you are definitely in a league of your own—seriously. As a whole, you are some of the most enthusiastic, energetic, motivated, and passionate human beings I’ve encountered. With that said, I can now definitely see why Market America has become the successful multimillion-dollar company that it is—you are the people who power it!

As the stadium seats began to fill, I sat back, taking everything in—in amazement. There was a spatter of banners representing almost every distributorship facet imaginable—everything from “Latinos: Querer Es Poder” to “Proud to Be a Part of the Market America Family,” translated into Chinese characters. There were more flag-wavers than I could count and several of the Asian Distributors displayed solidarity by wearing their Beijing Olympic t-shirts in matching bright red. It was a surreal atmosphere—almost like waiting for a concert to begin—minus the alcohol. There were people dancing in the aisles, singing along to the music, and even line-dancing in unison.

After about an hour of music-pumping and laser light action, the lights in the arena dimmed and smoke began to surround the stage. The spotlights began to shine and the enormous screens above the stage began to play the introductory video of JR and Loren telling the story of Market America.

Once the video ended though, the crowd really went wild. Loren was about to make her first appearance and give the welcome speech. Amidst a combination of cheering and clapping, fireworks, pyrotechnics, and laser lights, an almost inaudible emcee introduced our Senior Vice President.

As Loren emerged from backstage in a white power suit looking like a winning combination of fashionista and savvy businesswoman, the entire audience stood, cheering. Seeing the audience response and just being a part of the colossal event that was unfolding before my very eyes really set the tone for what was to come over the next few days.

The entire executive team, plus special guests and star Distributors including Elizabeth Weber, Joanne Hsi, Kelly Whited, and Min Liu—among many others—contributed valuable information over the course of the convention.

Each presentation brought new insight to different aspects of the company. There were so many powerful presentations including Dennis Franks & Lydia Martinez’s unveiling of the Purefoods Fresh Start system, Laura Laire’s Motives expertise, Marc Ashley & Chris Riggs’ unveiling of the Digital Newsstand, Marty Weissman & Tanya Smith’s moving presentation and unveiling of the Isotonix Might-a-Mins Spectrum, Dr. Julian Blumenfeld’s highly informative sessions, Steve Ashley’s dynamic Chatterbox and My World presentation, Kevin Buckman and Andrew Weissman’s unveiling of the maRewards program—the list just goes on and on.

And as expected, listening to (and watching) JR onstage was truly monumental. Everyone who told me how much I’d learn was right. Before attending Convention, I thought I knew the company. But after Convention, I realized that I only knew a tiny fraction of what there is to know and understand. Having the opportunity to see the mastermind behind it all—JR Ridinger—present the company’s business plan, and the opportunity to hear from people who have been with the company since its inception, is one that the majority of folks working on the 45-year plan never have.

I learned that no amount of YouTube videos and secondhand accounts can prepare you for the knowledge you will gain from this experience, and no matter how many business owners you’ve met in your lifetime, you’ll be blown away by the Distributors you’ll meet—people who are truly passionate and believe in what they do.

As Loren said during her opening speech, “It doesn’t matter when you got into Market America; what matters is when Market America gets into you.” Just ask anyone who has been to Convention; there’s no better way to “get it” than by attending, listening, and learning.

As a Distributor, or potential Distributor, you’d be foolish to miss it. And as a new employee, I’m so glad I didn’t.

We Are Family

The grand finale of Saturday’s event unfolded as the entire stage at Convention was filled with a sampling of the 500-plus employees of Market America who have sacrificed their lives, working the 45-Year Plan so that every Distributor in attendance and around the world would have the opportunity to choose the 2- to 3-Year Plan.

Built on Product. Powered by People.

In a very personal, charismatic session, Marty Weissman opened up to the masses and really got to the bare bones of who Market America is.

"Built on Product. Powered by People. It's not just a slogan, it's the very heart of who we are."

Marty...you are the man!

Challenge Winners and NEW Million Dollar Club Members

Rick Williams, President of Market Australia, congratulates our newest members of the Million Dollar Club and President's Challenge winners. These successful Distributors are the embodiment of success within Market America (not to mention role models for successful entrepreneurs worldwide).

Who will be the next Challenge Winner or Million Dollar Club member?

There's room for one more if you've got dedication and the desire to achieve!

Nothing Compares to Being There

In between sessions, several of the major power players and executives have come to the stage, all with the same message -- building from event to event. Sure, you at home are able to enjoy the fruits of the technology age, reading all about what's going on here at Convention exclusively on maBlog.

But let's face it, there is nothing, and I mean NOTHING, that can compare to being here amidst countless success stories all with the same dream. It is so powerful to experience this right alongside the ones who motivate us, inspire us, believe in us.

My point? Don't miss out next time. Get your 2009 ma World Conference tickets NOW!

Portal Power

I took a brief break from blogging to go purchase a few $25 gift certificates for TWO DOLLARS (!!!) apiece from restaurant.com. What an amazing deal! Two of my favorite restaurants in Winston Salem - 6th & Vine, and the Zev (aka Zevely House) - were featured restaurants on the site! Ordering was a snap, and considering I only paid four bucks for 50 dollars' worth of gift certificates, I'd say it's a pretty good deal.

Anyway, Marc and Loren just took us through another update on the Portal: our new 150+ partner stores, premiere partners (stores who take part of our universal check out), print center, new demo videos, enhanced news functionality, movies and media... products with increased IBV... it's simply mindblowing.

But all the high tech in the world can't compare to high touch: 78% of folks report being persuaded by referrals and product reviews. Pretty cool that we've got personal customer managers and comparison shopping, huh?

This place is amazing...and it just keeps getting better. Every. Single. Day.

(PS, thanks for the blog shout-out, Marc and Loren. It's a privilege to support ma's Executive Team and all our great Distributors out in the field. WE LOVE YOU GUYS!)

Credentials for Credibility

One of the last "acts" of the morning session for Saturday's agenda is the Doctors Panel, moderated by Executive Vice President Marty Weissman and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Julian Blumenfeld.

Discussions are well underway between the medical professionals and experts invited up on stage about the effectiveness and versatility of Pycnogenol in isotonic form, the revolutionary technology of Gene SNP, and other incredible ingredients found in Market America's superior products.

The panel -- consisting of Dr. Steven Lamm, Dr. Rosalyn Gill, Dr. Ruth Debusk and Dr. Dedra Mason -- is one of the most informative, educational and interesting presentations of the weekend.

And We're Off...

Since crowd control can be an issue when you're dealing with 30,000 anxious Distributors, me and AC were called in for reinforcements to help with the VIP seating. Perhaps it is because we are the two tallest people at Corporate...I like to think it has to do with our charming personalities. Either way, the last day here in the Greensboro Coliseum was an absolute MADHOUSE!

Hordes of people were lobbying for a seat in the front to take in the most important lineup of speakers for the entire event. You've heard of saving the best for last...and today's agenda surely delivers. We got Kevin Buckman and Andrew Weissman explaining maRewards updates; we got Marty Weissman doing an entire presentation on the very foundation of who we are; and of course JR will close with the most exciting part of Convention as he breaks down how Market America truly is creating the economy of the future!

Just to give you a quick look at how my morning started out...WOW, what a day.

maRewards Now Even More Rewarding

Kevin Buckman and Andrew Weissman unveil the latest round of enhancements and upgrades to the maRewards program, earning a roar of approval from the crowd.

News from the Newsstand

I wish we had pics for this. It's sweet beyond words.

Chris Riggs, CEO of Imirus (our digital newsstand partner) gave a sneak peek of the beta version of maNewsstand. Imagine being able to download the latest issue of Powerline - for use as a viral marketing tool for all your prospects, suspects and preferred customers - with dynamic links embedded within the document.

See an ad for Pentaxyl that you like? Click on the image and be taken to the Pentaxyl page on the portal. Checking out the new Pet Health products? Click on the bottle to see a video demo. Want to congratulate Joanne Hsi for making Field President? Click on her image and be taken to her Power Profile page.

I thought I had seen ALL of Market America's newest upgrades and expanded features... but this caught even me by surprise. The power and potential is unbelievable!

Backstage Pass

A very brief look at what goes into running such a monumental event..."behind the scenes" style.

Googling Market America

Real live screenshot taken from a Google search for "Health and Nutrition Products." Look who's number one! (Maybe next time, GNC!)

New and Improved Tools

JR unveiled our newly re-designed flip chart to much (appreciated) fanfare. I really want to tip my cap to all my colleagues in Creative Services at MA HQ who have been toiling tirelessly for months to bring a fresh new look to our most powerful business-building tool. What do you guys think? Be sure to order YOURS on unfranchise.com.

Still The One

Elizabeth Weber pumps up the crowd and leaves them in stitches with her award-winning recruiting and prospecting techniques.

Wake Up Call

Only 45 minutes into the show, JR was called to the stage and greeted by exploding fireworks, a giant cloud of smoke, blaring music and about 30,000 screaming Distributors anxiously awaiting his unveiling of the newly redesigned FlipChart (the business plan).

Let me tell you something...even though my first five cups of coffee hadn't kicked in yet, it didn't matter. This reaction was enough to wake up the entire city of Greensboro.

PS -- In case you were wondering, the new FlipChart looks unbelievable!!!

The Calm Before The Storm

It's quiet now, but what a difference one hour will make!

Gearing Up for Friday

Day two of International Convention begins....

Perfecting the Doctor-Patient Partnership

With the nutraMetrix presentation still going strong here at Convention, I just couldn't wait for it to be over before I bragged a little about this incredible division of Market America.

Our Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Julian Blumenfeld may have summed it up best when he said that it is the right time and right place for this alternative wellness approach to sweep our nation.

For decades, we did not combat terrorist activity until 9/11 happened. For decades, we did not spend the time or resources on developing alternative fuels until gas hit $4 a gallon. And for decades, we have taken a very passive approach as the U.S. healthcare system has spiraled out of control, said Blumenfeld.

The solution is not up to the federal government, it is not up to the health insurance agencies, and it is not up to the pharmaceutical companies. The solution is up to you and me to take our own wellness into our hands through preventative nutrition rather than medical treatment. And that, is why the time is now for nutraMetrix.

Leading the Environmental Parade

It's hip to "go green" these days, right? Everybody wants to be environmentally conscious & friendly.

Well, guess what? That was our core philosophy behind Snap and GlobalCare when we launched them 15 years ago... and other manufacturers are just now catching up.

Once again, Market America leads the parade.

We're proud to unveil our new logo expressing our commitment to protecting the environment: "ecofriendly." Look for it to be added to the many Market America products that qualify!

Goodbye, Leadership

The cat is officially out of the bag - to reflect our growing international scope, we're now rebranding our signature Miami event as "ma World Conference."

Check out our new global look:

Overheard

Kamal Hotchandani, publisher of Haute Living, on what he's learned from JR and the value of karma:

"Do the right thing, and the right things will happen to you."

Amber Ridinger is The Hip Chick

Andrew Payne, Andrew Weissman, and Loren Ridinger (AAL) announced that Amber Ridinger's new role as the next "it girl" model for The Hip Chick would be released in a national television marketing campaign.

Transitions Winners

or should we call them "losers"?

It's amazing to see all of the before and after pictures. I'm a fan of Transitions too (love the Lentils with Beef and also the shakes!) and the success stories are PHENOMENAL.

The proof is in the (low-GI) pudding!

Transitions

Market America Executive Vice President Dennis Franks gets the crowd fired up about slimming down...with Transitions Lifestyle System and our new partnership with PureFoods.

The Rockets Red Glare...

Stacy Whited kicked off the first day of Convention with a beautiful performance of the National Anthem.

Game On

Round one of VIP seating is complete. It's loosely organized chaos, with Challenge Winners & Million Dollar Club members & all the friends of JR, Marty, Dennis all jockeying for the best seats on the house.

Bear with us, folks - there's room for everyone under this tent.

The lights are down, the house is packed. The music and video is pumping everyone up - it's amazing to see how far Market America has come since its humble beginnings in 1992!

Live blogging - welcome to life in the digital age. BK is loading up some pics, so look for his entry in a few minutes. I'll be live blogging after each segment as well. Here we go!

Exclusive Recaps Posted During Convention

Convention is one of those things that you have to experience firsthand in order to fully appreciate the magnitude, power, belief and vision. It is electric. It is excitement. It is a rush of adrenaline for three days straight! Therefore, any Distributor who is serious about building their UnFranchise Business should be there – leading, learning, laughing, and living it.

With that said, it is also understood that unfortunately, not everyone from across the globe can attend International Convention each and every year. We have 165,000 Distributors and there isn’t an arena in the world big enough to hold us!

For those who are stuck at home, this will be our first major event where you can actually read about each presentation during International Convention exclusively on maBlog.

Stay logged on for up-to-date recaps and photos on the most exciting International Convention ever!

The Power of the Blog

With Convention just days away and all that goes into the preparation of such a monumental event, to say there is an anxiousness in the air here at Corporate is quite an understatement. But while I have these few fleeting moments of downtime, I would like to post some random thoughts. And what better topic than to blog...about blogging!!!

Let me say this right from the giddy-up: I am fairly new to writing blogs but would like to think that I, just like any of you, are fully qualified and capable of providing a rich, fertile environment that sparks discussions and opinions. Isn't that the whole purpose of a blog? Anyway, I would much rather talk with you, than at you.

See, unfortunately most of my experience as a professional writer has been with media outlets that, in the end, deliver a product that is just as engaging as a church bulletin. I don't mean to say that I'm a boring read (at least I hope I'm not), but even with so many different information channels available today, there is hardly any opportunity for comments, feedback or any other kind of interaction between the message originator and his/her audience. Instead, we are being spoon-fed "the facts" covered with cinnamon and spice.

As it stands, only those who work in the media or can back their mouth with their money are the ones whose voices can be heard on a grand scale. This could easily be interpreted as the opinion of the general public being suppressed by one-way media to the point of extinction. Of course people are still going to have a unique reaction to whatever they read, hear or learn about, but we are all being reprogrammed to care quietly.

What ever happened to the good ol' days when if you didn't agree with someone, you could have a screaming match in the square at high noon and the whole town would congregate to hear both sides of the matter? Anyone could speak their mind in front of the crowd. Looks like we have come full circle and those days of open communication are making a serious comeback. Welcome to the world of blogging...

Have you ever tried it? If so, what were you inspired to blog about?

Prepping your pets for travel

As International Convention 2008 is fast approaching, many of you are probably making travel arrangements for your pets. It may not be practical for you to travel with your pets to Greensboro this year, so make sure that whoever is watching them while you’re gone is prepared to take care of them just like you would if you were home.

Some things to consider are your pet's diet and supplement routine. If you are leaving your pets with a family member, make sure you tell them how much PetHealth™ OPC Formula (code 5602) and PetHealth™ Multivitamin (dogs - 5606 and cats - 5608) to feed them. Supplements are most effective when they are taken consistently. Maybe Fido prefers his vitamins prepared a certain way, so make sure whoever is watching him is aware of this - you don't want him to miss out on the benefits of his supplements just because your dog sitter didn't know how he liked them.

Many kennels and pet resorts offer discounts for providing your own food. Don't forget to take your Wellness® Dog or Cat Food (from petfooddirect.com) to the kennel with specific feeding instructions. Otherwise, your pet may end up eating a substandard dog or cat food. Also, check to make sure that your kennel will continue your pet's supplement regimen as well as any medications they may be on. Again, if you have any special needs or requirements for your pets make sure to be specific in your instructions.

No one likes to return home to a smelly dog. Make sure you take your favorite PetHealth™ Shampoo (Hypoallergenic – code 5612 and Medicated – code 5614) with you to the kennel. Ask ahead to make sure that they are willing to use your shampoo (and hey, who knows – they may like it enough to start using it themselves - $$).

Finally, make sure to give your pets a lot of love and affection before you leave. Traveling is stressful for them, and unless you’re a fire monster, I'm sure they don’t like to be apart from you. Talk calmly to them and give a good back rub. Let them know you’ll be back! Be prepared for lots of kisses. Don’t forget to bring them back a present!

Nutrients for Healthy Blood Pressure

Lower blood pressure levels have been linked to potassium and other mineral intake. Researchers at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine reviewed the medical literature and found significant roles of potassium, magnesium, and calcium for hypertension. Supplements can help increase intake of these nutrients when the diet is inadequate. Click the link below for more information.
