Another helpful tool to use with Facebook and Twitter is http://bit.ly which will allow you to shorten your url's, share and track your links.

For example you may want to send someone a link to the Nutri-Physical on your portal which will look something like this http://www.marketamerica.com/lacey/index.cfm?action=services.npHome. Instead you can install the bit.ly sidebar and while you are on the Nutri-Physical page click on the sidebar it will shorten the url to something like this http://bit.ly/1T1aWI and allow you to send it directly to email, gmail, Facebook or Twitter. You will be able to track how many people have clicked on your link.

Twitter users may want to use http://www.socialoomph.com to help automate some of their activities with the free version. You can automatically send new followers a thank you message for following, automatically follow everyone that follows you and automatically un-follow those that un-follow you. It will also send you keyword alerts to find those that are taking about a certain subject. A Motives Consultant may want to follow conversations about makeup, cosmetics, skincare, etc... and reply to or follow those people.

Twitter users can target followers on http://www.twellow.com/ by searching for people in their target area. For example, if you area a Motives Consultant, you may search for makeup artist and follow them directly from twellow.

Fred,

Thanks for sharing these additional tips. URL shorteners like www.bit.ly and www.snurl.com are great for getting your message (and URL) across.

A few notes on using www.socialoomph.com. A great concept; however, be prepared to lose some of your Twitter followers. The good-old 'canned message' can sometimes cause someone to quickly unfollow you because they may see you as being automated rather than a real user. Take the extra couple of seconds and craft a custom message to that individual user, they'll appreciate it.

As far as auto-following people and auto un-following people, I would be careful about using this feature. It is great for quickly building up a base of followers, but goes against many of Twitters practices and can potentially get you banned from their site.
