Weight Loss and Simple Math

Most people think that weight loss can be chalked up to simple math. Calories in = calories out. You want to lose weight, then you have to take in less than you are putting out. Unfortunately, simple math isnt always so simple and weight loss actually has many factors that can turn that simple math problem into a complex algebraic equation.

Hormones are one of the many factors affecting weight loss, ghrelin in particular. Ghrelin commonly refered to as the "hunger hormone" is made in the stomach and increases and decreases with meal consumption. In the hypothalamus, ghrelin binds to receptors related to metabolism while also binding to receptors that allow you to enjoy your food. Ghrelin also increases with decreased sleep making it potentially harmful to over worked, stressed out individuals that are already not getting enough time to sleep, eat right and exercise.

Thankfully, there is good news for individuals living the Transitions lifestyle. Obesity research has found that individuals that eat a diet full of high carbohydrate, high fat meals can alter ghrelin levels leading to higher food intake, while consumption of a low glycemic diet has been shown to have the reverse effect, actually helping control satiety and hunger and making weight loss a much simpler problem. While this only takes care of one of the many factors affecting weight loss it is one of the biggest obstacles to losing weight. Think about how much easier it would be for all of us to make smart eating choices if we werent so hungry all the time.

Q & A Session with Josiah Cephas Weaver, founder of GrahamFest USA!

Q: What does Market America mean to you?

"I did not know anything about Market America until this past year. We went to a political rally for Sarah Palin in New Port Richey, FL just before the election. We stood in line at 4:00 a.m. to get a good seat and hear Palin. We stood in line beside Flora Reece from Tampa, started talking, and liked each other immediately. Flora hung with us that entire morning! When we left, we exchanged cards and that's when I found out she was a Market America distributor, and she told me about Market America. My second introduction to Market America was through Lorin Sourbeck of Brandon, Florida. Lorin is one of my backup singers! She introduced us to OPC and "the Bs" as well as PRIME and many other Market America products. We love these products; what a difference they have made in our lives! Lorin is a cornerstone to Josiah's Mountain Rock Music Show as well as our website design and marketing. The common thread that I see as I meet Market America "people" can be summed up in just a few words: honesty, service, loyalty, friendliness, hard work,and FREEDOM. These are the cornerstones of MY LIFE, my music, and GrahamFest. So as you can see I feel right at home at Market America."

Q: Why should Market America come to Wytheville see you perform?

"That is a good question; most people do not even know where Wythe (sounds like "with") County is, but chances are they have driven right by my ranch on Interstates 81 or 77! GrahamFest is located within a one-days drive of half the population in this country; it has been a major crossroads since the early settlers traveled west on the Great Wagon Road and Wilderness Road. The Native Americans used this valley as their own war path and the bison traveled it long long ago. The history here is remarkable. Q: Who are your influences (musically or in life)?

My momma sang in the church choir for 41 years. I can still hear her telling me, 'Josiah, don't ever stop singing'. My mother always had a smile on her face, room at the kitchen table for one more mouth, and happy heart. I feel her with me every day of my life. My daddy could memorize and create poems instantly. He wrote a poem for Mom called "My Queen," and it is on their tombstone. It'll bring tears to your eyes...that kinda love. My parents gave me these gifts, then the taught me how to work, be responsible, and handle money. These gifts are priceless to me.

Q: Tell us about your first trip to ma World Conference.

When we went to the Market America World Conference in Miami this year, I did not know what to expect. After experiencing JR's speech, after listening to the scientists and the researchers, the millionaire distributors AND the new distributors, watching Dennis ROCK with his Second Look Band -- as I watched the people and felt the pure energy of the place, I was inspired! I value energy, and I was bathed in it there. As I watched and listened to JR, I recognized in him many of the same values that guide my life. 'Get the job done. Make money. Have fun. Hi Market America and potential Voitel® Business Subscribers...

How many Market America business owners would be interested in a Voitel digital phone application for your home office and/or small business office (SoHo)? I am researching a couple of business VoIP options and I need your advice and suggestions.

This is probably a refresher for some of you but just in case---IP PBX solutions offer a variety of call-management features, such as voice-menu systems, call conferencing, click-to-call, call logging and tracking, voice mail and call forwarding. It makes your small business look like a BIG corporation. Please search 'IP PBX Features' on the Internet for a more comprehensive list of all the capabilities.

So one solution I am exploring is a Hosted IP PBX solution that delivers robust IP PBX feature functionality to your SoHo phones. This option requires little to no capital because we 'host' the hardware & software. All you do is supply the IP phones and let us do the rest. This solution is great for businesses who have less than 10 phones and limited IT support.

The 2nd option is a 'premise-based' IP PBX solution. The IP PBX device offers the same 'robust' features but resides on your premise or in your office. IP phones are required for this option as well. This one is great for businesses with more than 10 phones.

A Story only a Dog Owner can appreciate

With the sun finally coming out the past few days, I’ve been able to get out and take my dog for a walk around the neighborhood. Yesterday while we were out walking, my little Jack Russell Jack caught a glimpse of a boy on a bike and took off running. “Yea, right”, I thought as he stretched out the leash. To my dismay, the retractable leash that I’ve had for 10 years finally saw its last day and there went my dog chasing this poor little boy on his bike. So now, instead of having a nice walk around the neighborhood, I’m running like a mad woman down the street chasing my dog who’s chasing this little boy that’s crying because he thinks my ferocious dog is going to kill him. When I finally caught up to them, Jack is sitting there barking like cujo at the boy’s bike and the boy is in his mom’s arms crying. I apologized profusely and tried to tell them that Jack would never hurt anyone and that he just likes to chase anything that moves. Wow, that was one BIG embarrassing moment, but thankfully the mom understood and promised everything would be ok.

So here’s a word to the wise. Don’t think just because your leash looks like it’s in good shape that you’ll be able to control your wild pooch. Play it safe and get a new one so you don’t end up chasing a dog on the run like me.

Great article on Dick and Tommie Ridinger

Anyone who has been to International Convention or World Conference has seen JR's parents, Dick and Tommie Ridinger. Over Memorial Day Weekend, their local paper in New Jersey did a great story on their service to their country during World War II and their experiences during 61 years of marriage. This isn't a story about MA or our products, but is an inspirational story about two members of The Greatest Generation and gives some pointers to all of us on how we should look at life.

Gluten-free diet: good for Celiac Disease, bad for gut health.

A recent article published in the British Journal of Nutrition found that while a gluten-free diet is beneficial for patients suffering from food-related diseases such as Celiac Disease, it is detrimental to gut health and gut-related immune function. A gluten-free diet is often prescribed for patients with gluten-intolerance, wheat allergy or Celiac Disease to reduce the chance of an allergic reaction. This includes the exclusion of wheat, rye, barley, and oats from the diet. Gluten is a small protein composed of gliadin and glutenin that makes up roughly 80% of the protein content in wheat. In patients with Celiac Disease, exposure to gluten can result in an inappropriate immune response in the gastrointestinal tract, resulting in changes in enterocyte anatomy, poor absorption of critical nutrients and resultant systemic deficiencies, and other intestinal problems.

Researchers at the Microbial Ecophysiology and Nutrition Group in Valencia, Spain found that a gluten free diet resulted in a decrease in beneficial bacteria such as Bifidobacterium, Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium longum and an increase in potentially pathogenic bacteria such as Enterobacteriaceae and Escherichia coli. They also found the ability of colonic bacteria to stimulate cytokine production (an immune response) was reduced in patients on a gluten-free diet.

'Yes' it is official!! Market America and Voitel have finally struck up a partnership with a DSL provider so that we can bring you Voitel Internet Access!

We launched this new Internet offering in St. Augustine this past weekend and quite a few of you took advantage of the event special, which included a free modem.

I mentioned that our Internet Access website would be 'live' by the end of the week and that you would be able to go to www.voitelinternetaccess.com and enter your phone number to check for availability and/or review our footprint for coverage. We are still finalizing the funtionality of our website so please keep checking back.

We are also making changes to the ma portal so that finding Voitel solutions is more intuitive. Simply go to your ma portal, click on the 'Telecommunications' category and then choose Digital Home Phone Service, Wireless Service and/or Internet Access. Look for this to be 'live' by the 1st of next week.
